Centenary Celebrations

Class 3  really enjoyed the Centenary Celebrations.
First we had old fashioned races. Our class did the egg and spoon race!

Then we had old fashioned lessons. The children had to sit in rows and learnt all about the Welsh Not.

Finally we enjoyed the special assembly and the street party.

Our Visit to Rhondda Heritage Park

On Tuesday Class 3 enjoyed their trip to The Rhondda Heritage Park.
First of all Mr Gill took us for a walk around the park. We saw the River Rhondda and a lovely waterfall. Some of us even saw into the levels that used to lead the children into their work in the mine.
Then we went underground. Some of the children didn't like it underground because "it was dark, spooky and wet!"
After that we had lunch. The children made the most of the fine weather and enjoyed themselves playing in the park.
Finally we went into the Workshop where some children tried on old fashioned clothes and everybody got to play with the toys from long ago. The boys and girls even made Mrs Hopkins wear a 'slouch' board for quite a long time!

Out and About with Mr Francis!

On Monday we went on a walk around the village with Mr Francis. We wanted to find out about all the schools there used to be in Llanharry

First Mr Francis took us to the Church where he told us the children had to sit on the stone benches inside the porch, in order to learn to read and write.

Then we went to the old school room in The Bear.

Finally we visited Peniel Chapel Vestry.

We all had a really enjoyable afternoon. All the boys and girls were very well behaved and listened carefully to Mr Francis. They learned a lot about the history of schools in Llanharry.

First Week Back!

What a busy week it's been!
We are in the middle of preparing for the school's centenary. In class this week the children have been talking about what games they like to play at school at playtime. They have written poems which they will be reading in the school's special assembly on 26th April. They will be spending the next few weeks finding out what games children enjoyed playing in school 100 years ago. ( To support this investigation we will be visiting the Rhondda Heritage Park on Tuesday 23rd April).
The children have also been really busy doing their art work for the Community Art Competition.
